Hooked on Crochet

Hello lovely peeps and welcome to my new follower.

Please allow me to introduce my new crafty obsession ......... crochet!

I've been dying to learn crochet for ages now, ever since I saw someone had crocheted a baby groot (from Guardians of the Galaxy). The pattern looked a bit complicated though so I've been keeping an eye out for a simpler project to get me started.

Then I saw that one of my ex-Polkadoodles teamies, Cara, had crocheted some oh-so-cute little cats and that, as they say, was that  :D

I watched several YouTube videos, did lots of practice with some acrylic DK and a new set of crochet hooks, then took the plunge and bought some proper yarn. Cara recommended a few different ones and I went for YarnArt Jeans which I got from Our Little Craft Co (fabulous service).

One of the cats I regularly cat-sit for is Jim, a gorgeous grey tabby. I decided to make my first kitty based on him as his owner's birthday is coming up soon.

It took me several sessions to get him finished (and it took ages to do his facial features) but I'm quite pleased with how he turned out.

I used:-
3mm crochet hook
YarnArt Jeans shades 46 Grey & 80 Light Grey
(& strands of 62 Snow White for whiskers)
Ricorumi shade 008 Rose
black acrylic DK
large needle
stuffing
free pattern for 'Itty Bitty Crochet Kitty' from Thoresby Cottage

I would like to enter my kitty in the following challenges:-

Finger Painting

A bit of finger painting today, lol.

I've been watching an old Art Journalling DVD by Kate Crane where she does painty backgrounds with her fingers and thought I would have a go.

New Home

Hello lovely peeps, I hope you are well.  Apologies for the lack of posts and visiting your own blogs to comment. Between work, gardening and my new crafty addiction (more to come on that soon), I've not had much time left for blogland.

Today I'm sharing a card I made for my friend to give her son and partner when they moved into their new home.

She sent me pictures of the house beforehand and it's so lovely I wanted to move there myself :D
I decided to do a variation on an easel card I designed a few years ago but designed it specifically to look like their new house.

There is a beautiful stream running past too so I have incorporated that onto the base of the easel.

Ingredients:
Tim Holtz (Sizzix) mini tattered florals and garden greens dies
Cheery Lynn fence die
various scraps of paper
LOTV circle sentiment stamp
wadding for the chimney smoke
watercolour card and grey paint for the windows/door

I would like to enter this in the following challenges:-
Pixie's Snippets Playground #400
Aud Sentiments Challenge #272 AG & a sentiment

Two Quarters

Hello lovely peeps and Happy Easter to you.

I'm delighted to say that I'm a Guest Designer over at AAA Cards for their latest challenge.

They've got a new theme this time, which is 'Two Quarters'

and I chose to follow the optional twist of 'Rainbow'.
