Lavender Butterfly for Polkadoodles

Hello peeps, hope you are well.

It's time for a new challenge at Polkadoodles - the theme for the next fortnight  is 'Things with Wings'.

My Lavender Tea Collection stamps arrived last weekend so I was dying to have a play with them. I started by stamping 'butterfly wings' (i.e. one of the petal stamps) and some flower stems onto watercolour card.

I then 'coloured' them in with Pebeo drawing gum, wet the card thoroughly and painted on some Cobalt Blue brusho paint for the sky and Olive Green for the ground.

I added some Violet splodges where the flower heads would go then rubbed off the gum and coloured the butterfly in with sprinkles of Purple.

For the body of the butterfly I stamped the stamen twice onto a separate piece of paper and cut it out.

The sentiment was printed from the Lemonade Fizz CD Rom and cut up before scribbling an outline with a fineliner pen.

LOTV Sketch Challenge - Coffee Talk

Hello lovely peeps

Today's make is my inspiration card for the May Challenge at Lili of the Valley. 

 

To enter the challenge you need to make a card based on a sketch by the lovely Jen using a LOTV image and post your card in the Facebook Event page. Dragonfly Dreams for Leonie

I've made a simple scene for todays card, using stamps from Leonie's Arrow to the Heart set.

I wanted a subtle background to stamp onto so I chose a couple of beautiful papers from 'The Promise' 8x8 pad from First Edition. After practicing on a bit of scrap paper I built up a dragonfly with a couple of the petal stamps. They are stamped with Versamark ink and sprinkled with Classic Pewter embossing powder (Stamp n Stuff)

I added little swirls and 'grasses' (embossed with the same powder) then stamped 'Follow Your Dreams' from Clarity in Versamark and dusted it with Forest Green mica powder

 

For a bit of sparkle I've added green adhesive gems and 'Silver Glass' Vintage Glitter from Stampendous

Birthday Fishes for Polkadoodles

Hello peeps, hope you're all well.

Remember my mouse card with the holey cheese? Well today I want to show you the other card that I made with the red bubbles paper from the Little Kingdom CD from Polkadoodles.

So this is the paper after I've cut all the holes out with my Craft Robo. It's just begging to have things popping in and out of the holes, don't you think?

I'm thinking fish because it looks a bit like coral. So I had another look around the CD and, lo and behold, one of the shapes looks like a fish. I printed some off in several different sizes and coloured them in with Graph'It markers 2105 and 2120.

I cut down the 'coral' a bit to give it a more natural shape and then backed it onto some red card. I only glued around the outside at first so that I could slot the fish in easily.

Next I covered a 7x7 card with the pale aqua version of the bubbles paper and glued my coral structure on top. The seaweed is cut from a couple of the green papers on the CD using one of the 'Florist Friend' dies from Sheena Douglass.  To make the fish look more fishy I've just drawn some eyes in with a black fineliner pen and drawn '3's for the fins. Easy peasy :D

Now for the greeting. Since 'fish' sounds like 'wish' I was compelled to go for another pun. There is a lovely 'Sending Birthday Wishes' sentiment on the CD and I pulled it into Craft Artist and used the eraser to remove the 'W' before printing it out. It's all ready for an alphabet die-cut now :D

One last little touch was adding the waste circles (left over from cutting out the 'coral') as bubbles. I just drew little reflections on to make them look more realistic.

And here is the finished card:-

Lemonade Swirls

Hello lovely peeps

 It's mid-challenge reminder time on the Polkadoodles blog today.
The theme this fortnight is 'Swirls and Flourishes'.

My favourite stamp on the Lemonade Fizz Stamp Soup set has some lovely swirls in it, so that was my starting point. I built up some flowers with a few of the stamps in the set, starting with a circle for the centre and masking off as I went.

I coloured the flower in with Promarkers - Pastel Beige, Khaki and Oatmeal - and the stem/leaves with Pear and Umber. To deepen the colour I went over with a Lyra Polycolour Pencil - Vermillion.

 I found a paper with the perfect colour match on the Pretty Tuff CD but needed something pale to mat the flowers onto, so I had a rootle through my small stash of Gelli Plate prints and found this one that was done with the Leafy Swirl stencil from Clarity.

I cut it in half and then tore the edges and filled in a bit with a couple more Lyra pencils - Brown ochre 82 and Van Dyck Brown 76

I layered up my panel and my greeting (also from Stamp Soup) on torn green card and added a couple of die-cut flourishes. They've got a little bit of Golden Sand Embossing Powder from Stampendous on them.

Thanks sew much for Sugar Nellie

Hello lovely peeps

 I'm very excited to announce that I have been invited to be on the Sugar Nellie design team for the next four months. Woo hoo! What an honour, I'm very chuffed :D

I came across some lovely sewing themed papers that were free in issue 147 of Papercraft Inspirations magazine. I've printed them off at twice the size onto 120gsm Super Smooth paper.

So, looking for a character to match the theme, I came across this Gorjuss™ stamp -  'I found My Family in a book' - which I used for my Paperchains card last year. I thought this would work equally well for sewing, so this time I've drawn little stitch marks around the dolls.

She's coloured in with my Graph'It markers and then fussy cut.

To decorate the card I used some buttons from my mahoosive collection, and made some cotton reel embellishments using a stamp from a magazine freebie set. I coloured the card and some white cotton with my markers and wrapped the thread around the reels a few times, leaving the ends free. I tied the threads in a knot to keep them in one place.
 

The letters are stamped with Retro alphabet stamps from My Sentiments Exactly and outlined with a black fineliner pen.

Magic Matchbox for Polkadoodles

Hello again peeps.

 
I'm back with another Polkadoodles sample - this one is using the Magic Garden CD, which includes a template for a Matchbox.

As soon as I saw the template I knew what I wanted to make with it - Craftwork Cards brought out a kit last year to make matchboxes with pop-up flowers, and I've been dying to make one myself.

 I printed off a few matching papers from the CD onto 250gsm white card and then printed the Matchbox Template onto the back of two of them. I made up the outer part of the matchbox with the red stitchy paper, some flowers cut out with my Craft Robo and the first half of one of the lovely sentiments. The 'sun' is just one of the flower centres enlarged and cut out.

The inner tray was made with the white floral pattern and lined with the green gingham (yee ha!). I've added a brad from my stash so you can pull the tray out easily.

I then cut some strips of acetate, folded them in half lengthways and glued on lots more of the flowers. These are then attached to the inside of the tray so they can fold flat.

So, pull the tray out a little for a sneaky peek ...

 ... and then a bit further to reveal the rest of the sentiment. Ta da!
